A BUSINESS has raised more than £1,400 for charity from an event held in memory of a much loved colleague.
Harvey’s Garden Plants and The Orchard Restaurant, in Thurston, hosted a walking tour, drinks reception and meal as a tribute to Brenda Waker, who died last year.
The office administrator, who would have celebrated her 50th birthday last week, collapsed from a stroke while at work in December.
She died in hospital two days later.
The event, which was organised by Teresa and Roger Harvey, included a walk in the nursery’s wildlife area and an elm tree planting in memory of Mrs Waker in their meadow.
The money will be split between The Stroke Association and The Thurston First Responders, which rushed to Mrs Waker’s aid.
Mrs Harvey said: “We based the event around the things Brenda loved.
“Her family were her first priority but working here was her dream job and she was always so happy and helpful and great to have around.
“She loved walking, gardening, eating and generally having fun.
“She had the ability to live life to the full every day which is why we felt it so important to put this event on to celebrate our wonderful memories of our dear friend and colleague.”
