A FUND-RAISER who is raising money for injured servicemen and women has been given a cash boost by a councillor.

Trevor Turner, of Glebe Close, Weeting, has been given £500 by Forest Heath district councillor Bill Bishop to pay for a gazebo, chairs and tables for use at events in Brandon.

Mr Turner’s events will raise funds for Help for Heroes, including a fun day to be held at the Ram Hotel on Sunday.

He said: “This is the second fund-raising event that I will have held in Brandon – the first was for Great Ormond Street Hospital, which was a great success.

“This is not only about fund-raising for charity but the benefits through extra footfall that this brings to the town as a whole.”

Cllr Bishop granted the money from his locality budget, a £2,500 pot of cash for community projects of member’s choosing.

He said: “This money will not only help Mr Turner with his fund-raising event, that he hopes to run annually, it will also bring people to the town for the day and provide a fun day out for the community.”
