IT’S not every day you see Aladdin and Pippi Longstocking releasing balloons into the sky.

But that was the scene at Norwich Road Primary School, in Thetford, last Friday as pupils celebrated World Book Day with fancy dress and a balloon race.

Jo Ryder, headteacher, dressed as Professor McGonagall from the Harry Potter series for the day and said she was proud of her students.

“I’ve been delighted with how children have responded to all the events our hard-working team have organised since I arrived in September but today has got to be one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

The day was supported by the school’s PTA, The Helping Hands, which awarded £10 book vouchers to the best fancy dress in each year.

Each pupil was given a balloon to release, all of which were tagged. The pupil whose tag is found furthest from the school will win a prize.
