Changes are being proposed to regulate the widespread use of A-boards in Bury St Edmunds.
Following a review St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Cabinet is being asked to move regulation to the control of the Outdoor Advertising Regulations Act. This would give the council stronger powers to prosecute a business for unauthorised A Board advertising.
A report to October’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee says the current Street Vending Policy does not offer enough controls and the new system would strike an ‘efective balance’ between giving business owners flexibility and protecting amenity and public safety.
A-boards which have been in location for more than 10 years or those displayed on land owned by businesses are not affected.
