A retired hospital consultant is to step down as chairman of a health group.

Dr Anne Nicholls, of Lavenham, is to leave her role as chairman of the community engagement group of NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group.

Her final meeting as chairman will be at the Memorial Hall, in High Street, Newmarket, on Thursday, February 25 from 10am to 12.30pm.

The role is one of many the former consultant in rheumatology at West Suffolk Hospital has held to lead changes in the health system in the last five decades. Last year’s opening of the new Sudbury Community Health Centre was a highlight of her career after working as chairman of the Sudbury and Locality Community Reference Group. Dr Nicholls has also served as a patient representative on the board of NHS Suffolk and served on the Local Involvement Network to identify poorly performing health services.

She said: “The NHS is undoubtedly one of the most important and valuable assets of the country, and I feel privileged to have spent so much of my life involved in its development and improvement. I will miss the role of chairman, although will remain a member of the community engagement group.”
