Age UK Suffolk is asking people aged over 65 to get involved in a challenge being staged on Moreton Hall, in Bury St Edmunds, next month.

The organisation is celebrating 65 years of helping older people in the county and wants to find 65 older people to take up the challenge of completing 65 ‘sits-to-stands’.

Sam Reid, falls prevention exercise co-ordinator for West Suffolk, said the exercise - which will involve participants getting up from a chair unaided - had been chosen because ‘it is one of the biggest challenges people face when they’re older and one of the biggest barriers to them living independently’.

Those who achieve the challenge will have their names put into a hat and the person selected will win a year’s free membership to a class of their choice.

Classes run by the organisation take place in 18 venues around Suffolk and include Tai Chi, Chi Ball, relaxation and arts and crafts.

The challenge will take place at Christ Church, in Lawson Place, from 11.30am-12.30pm on March 27.
