A BURY St Edmunds community centre has received a ‘fantastic boost’ from a funding pot which helps charities and organisations adopt cost saving green initiatives.
New Bury Community Centre, in St Olaves Road, has installed cavity wall insulation after receiving support from West Suffolk Partnership’s greener business grant.
Grants of up to £1,000 are available for groups and businesses to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint and save money.
An initial £60,000 was made available with a substantial amount still to be claimed.
The community centre, on the Howard Estate, also gained cash from Suffolk county councillllor Stefan Oliver’s locality budget for the £1,700 insulation.
Ernie Broom, chairman of the Howard Estate Association of Residents and Tenants, said he would encourage other organisations to enquire about a grant. He added: “It has been a fantastic boost for us and really will benefit so many people.”
