St Edmundsbury Cathedral has been awarded a grant of £350,000 for essential repairs.
The grant, one of 24 awarded by the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund, will go towards repairing the nave clerestory, cloister roof and library roof.
The Rev Canon Philip Banks, Canon Precentor at the cathedral, said: “We are absolutely delighted with this fantastic news.
“This latest work will complete a number of major works for the current generation and we envisage there will be no more major work needed for over 100 years.”
Work is due to start in March next year and will take around six months to complete.
The Very Rev Dr Frances Ward, cathedral dean said the funding would allow the cathedral to fulfil its responsibilities for the medieval windows and stonework in its care.
