The £750,000 a year subsidy to The Apex in Bury St Edmunds could be slashed by a third through a Sodexo catering contract.

Cllr Sarah Stamp, new portfolio holder for arts and culture at St Edmundsbury Borough Council. told a full council meeting on Tuesday, Sodexo expect to contribute £250,000 a year towards The Apex’s revenue by the end of its seven year contract.

Changes to other income and cost will impact on that subsidy. But Cllr Stamp said work to cut the subsidy is ongoing.

She also said she saw it as ‘an investment in the arts’ rather than a subsidy.
