A MAN who lost his sister in a drink-driving accident has made it his mission to raise awareness of the dangers of driving when under the influence of alcohol.

Carl Jones, 25, of Mortimer Road, Bury St Edmunds, has started a campaign to raise awareness of drink-driving by putting up posters in pubs, bars and clubs in the town.

He hopes to distribute posters to surrounding villages and other nearby towns such as Mildenhall.

Carl’s sister, Samantha Leonard, was 22 when she was killed in an accident caused by a drink-driver in Idaho, USA, last year. Samantha, who grew up in Mildenhall, died in hospital a week after the accident in September 2010.

Carl said: “Hopefully the poster will have a bit more impact because it’s a local girl.

“If it can stop one person from drink-driving or save one life, it will be worth it.”

The annual Philosopher’s Fair will also be used to raise awareness. The music event is being held at Mildenhall Stadium on July 16.

Carl said: “We wanted to use the fair to raise awareness. If drink-driving is going to happen it will probably be at an event like this.”
