RETAILERS and community associations are to be consulted on plans to introduce parking restrictions at two sites.
They will be asked for their views on the plans for Lawson Place and Southgate Community Centre car parks.
Motorists would be able to park at the sites free for up to three hours Monday to Fridays but risk receiving £30 fines if they exceed this.
The proposal follows concerns that cars are being parked on the sites for long periods to allow owners to commute into town or West Suffolk Hospital by bus to save money.
A report presented to St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s cabinet, which rubber stamped the move on Wednesday subject to consultation, said: “It is important that an element of control is introduced to both these areas in order to free up space for legitimate users of both retail areas.
“This proposal is not viewed as a revenue generator.”
