Variety of ales go down a treat with Laura

Have your say

WITH entertainment ranging from stilt walkers to amusing processions by Betty Stogs, Skinners Brewery’s well known mascot, there was plenty to amuse festival-goers like myself, enjoying the odd beer or two.

Faced with more than 1,000 drink varieties, I opted for a half pint glass, although a pint and a third were also available.

I started my drinkathon with Greene King’s newest ale and was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing I found it, a perfect choice on a summer’s day and one that I returned to throughout my time there.

After a couple of laps around the exhibition centre, a collection of pub games caught my eye.

A consolation prize for my poor performance on shuffleboard made my embarrassment worthwhile and I went about choosing a snack from the range of food on offer, including Thai, Greek, German and Indian cuisine, gourmet burgers, wild boar pies and traditional pub meals.

I was overwhelmed by the friendliness of visitors and staff and was pleased to see a mixed crowd, including women and young people.
