GOING for afternoon tea at London’s famous Harrods store?

Then you’ll see the fine upholstery work of Rougham’s own John Halpin Upholstery Ltd.

John and his team spent part of September upholstering the seating for the Tea House, in Harrods.

The team of 12, along with Rougham neighbours Richard Lebbon Joinery, were drafted in to help complete refurbishing the luxury tea rooms.

John, 42, said: “It all came together really nicely – everyone seemed happy.

“I am very proud to have our work in such a prestigious institution such as Harrods.”

The team, headed up by John who has been an upholsterer for 25 years, spent three weeks designing the different seating areas using top materials, such as Italian leather and American black walnut wood, and fitting the tea room.

They upholstered bench seating, wall seating and a beautiful round banquet seat finished in Harrods green velvet.

John, from Bury St Edmunds, said: “There was a bit of kudos connected to it and it was an interesting job.

“It was exciting and hopefully it will lead on to other jobs.”

“It really was a team effort and I can’t commend my colleagues highly enough for their skills.”
