SIXTY primary school children are taking science and geography lessons to a new level at the BTS arboretum training centre in Needham Market.
Children from an Ipswich school, aged between eight and 11, were stepping outside the classroom to take part in a special learning event today, as part of national tree week.
The school pupils were learning about the environmental importance of trees and will learn how to climb safely on the centre’s giant steel tree.
They will receive tuition and first-hand experience of tree climbing on the training tree which stands at more than 24ft tall.
Darren Clark, BTS group director, said: “It’s all about promoting trees and giving everybody an idea about what we do.
“Hopefully, if it’s successful the aim will be to offer it to other schools and scout groups and people like that.”
The school children were also choosing a tree which BTS will plant at their school in Ipswich.
People across Suffolk have been planting trees this week as part of National Tree Week.
