Increased demand for its sacked products has seen malt manufacturer Muntons in Stowmarket invest £280,000 in a robot arm.
The robot palletiser has increased the firm’s sacked products capacity by 50 per cent.
“The installation of the robot arm has made a dramatic improvement in our ability to respond to the increasing demand for malt, flour and flakes from our craft brewing and bakery customers,” said Kenneth Maxfield, Muntons Ingredients general manager.
“With a 50 per cent increase in our packing rate, we are now much better placed to react to the growing number of orders that the burgeoning craft brewing trade is generating.”
Software allows the arm to stack the 65 different sack/ pallet combinations required.
Muntons produces in excess of 70,000 tonnes of malt and 30,000 tonnes of malt based extracts per year.
