AN ANNOUNCEMENT about the future of a popular hotel is expected to be made within eight to 12 days.
The Angel Hotel, in Lavenham, is believed to be the village’s oldest pub.
The company that runs it, the Maypole Group Plc, went into administration in October and negotiations with a potential buyer began soon after – it is rumoured that celebrated chef Marco Pierre White is interested in the flourishing hotel and restaurant.
Terry Medcalf, Maypole Group financial controller, would not deny or confirm the rumours but, on Wednesday, said: “We’re eagerly waiting for the news that everything’s gone through and hope that something might surface in the next 10-14 days.”
Simon Bower and Bruce Mackay, partners at Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery LLP, have been appointed joint administrators. Mr Bower said: “In the interests of confidentiality it is not appropriate for the joint administrators to identify or discuss any interested parties involved in the potential sale. However, we are pleased to report that discussions are progressing well and we are hopeful of concluding a deal in the near future. We continue to be encouraged by the loyal support of staff and customers and look forward to making a further announcement in due course “
