A POULTRY factory is celebrating its first anniversary following a year of success.
The 2 Sisters Food Group site, in Thetford, has seen production and staffing numbers shoot up since opening last year.
The Caxton Way facility now employs about 400 people including agency staff – an increase of 320 since its launch.
It follows a major boost in the customer base of the factory, which creates coated chicken products.
When it first opened, the site just supplied items for Marks and Spencers.
However, they also now serve supermarket giants Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
A spokeswoman for the company said: “We’ve grown considerably in the last year and created many more jobs than first presumed.
“We’ve primarily created more jobs because our customer relationships have grown and we’ve developed more business off the back of that. It’s just grown and grown.
“The actual number of people we employ permanently has doubled.
“It has been a really successful year for us.”
There will be a party for staff to celebrate the site’s anniversary on February 20.
The company has also built links with the community after helping to create a public garden. For more than three months, starting in June, the factory provided two members of staff to work two days a week on the green project at The Limes, in Thetford.
The 2 Sisters Food Group has 35 maufacturing sites across the country, including one in Haughley Park, Stowmarket.
Formed in 1993, it supplies poultry, fish, chilled, bakery and frozen products to the retail, food service and food manufacturing sectors.
It also has six sites in Holland and one in Poland.
The group employs about 18,000 people and annual sales are now more than £2.1 billion after the company bought Northern Foods last April.
