A TV repair shop in Bury St Edmunds will close its doors at the end of the month after 14 years years in Bury St Edmunds.

Newlife TV in Garland Street is run by Jerry Wright and Mel Bugg who previously worked at Lawson’s on the Corn Hill.

Because of the changing market they have decided to close the shop but continue their repair and sales service from home.

Jerry said: “We are not working in the same way that we did and have reduced margins. We are very busy on repairs but the shop is not doing a lot. We are operating much more in customers’ homes.”

The two joined Lawsons after leaving school and trained in handling TV and audio repairs.

Mel said: “Over the last 12 to 18 months with the switch over to digital things have changed.

“You can walk into a supermarket today and pick up a TV very cheaply.

Competition from online has also made it difficult so we decided we would concentrate on our service side of the business.”

“But we would like to say a big,big thankyou to our customers. They have been brilliant. We’re both Bury boys and love the people. It has been brilliant it’s just a shame we have to change the way we work.”
