The memories of 25 years of deer stalking have become a book for former solicitor David Barrington Barnes from High Rougham.
He has been controlling deer on a number of farms and estates in East Anglia since they first began to reappear here, as his self-published book On the Deer Path recalls.
“There has been an increase in numbers in East Anglia from the levels of 25 years ago,” he said. “But you have to be careful not to generalise with deer because in some places, like Breckland, numbers are high but in others some species are absent.
“The last thing a deer stalker wants to do is to shoot all the deer in an area. You just want to keep them at an acceptable level.”
