LOCAL companies and not for profit organisations are being given the opportunity to apply for up to £1,000 of funding to reduce their carbon levels and running costs.

West Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership (WSLSP) has set up a ‘greener business grant’ of £60,000. The funding is to be spent on simple energy-saving changes such as insulating premises, replacing heating and lighting and installing energy efficient equipment.

As well as helping the environment, the changes will help companies to reduce their energy use and fuel bill, and bring their running costs down.

Bury St Edmunds-based business Denny Brothers Ltd acquired a £1,000 grant to insulate the office ceiling, and it is estimated that the work will save the company £1,795 each year in energy costs. It will also reduce its annual carbon footprint by 9.8 tonnes.

Julian Colman, quality manager from Denny Brothers, said: “We are really pleased with the results. The grant has helped us improve our environmental performance and reduce our energy costs, which, in turn, makes our business more efficient.”

Funding is available to West Suffolk organisations such as parish councils and businesses employing up to 250 people. For more information, call Andrew Oswald on 01284 757622 or email andrew.oswald@stedsbc.gov.uk
