A BURY St Edmunds-based company has cleaned up as it goes on the acquisition and growth trail to reach a turnover of £300 million a year over the next three years.

Servest Multi Service Group has taken over Turners Cleaning and Support Services, giving it a turnover of £70 million and a staff of 8,000 in the UK – including 50 based at its headquarters at the Heath Farm Business Centre at Servest House, Fornham All Saints. And it could mean more jobs there in the future.

It is a leading multi-services provider in the UK, offering cleaning, waste management, recycling, interior and exterior landscaping, pest control, washroom and other services to businesses in the retail, leisure, public, commercial, transport and logistics sectors.

Key clients include Tesco, Next, Primark, Natural History and Science Museums, University of Cambridge and Leicestershire County Council.

Stuart Boswell, Servest’s managing director, commercial and public sector, said: “With its heavy focus on the public sector, Turners is a good key strategic fit as it provides diversification away from our current focus on the retail sector, providing a huge growth opportunity and long-term contracts.”

The current Servest management team will take up lead roles in the combined business, led by Rob Legge, Servest’s UK group chief executive, with Les Turner, Turners director of operations and nephew of the founder Peter Turner, who now retires, taking on a key role.

Mr Legge said its ambitious strategy was to reach £300 million turnover over the next three years by a mixture of acquisition and organic growth.

In 2008 it took over Sherwood, a provider of integrated support services to blue chip businesses and public sector organisations.

The company is 70 per cent owned by Servest South Africa, which is based in Johannesburg and employs around 30,000 people.

The remainder of the UK company is owned by its management team.

Turners has provided cleaning and support services for almost 40 years to customers in the office, education, leisure, distribution and manufacturing complexes as well as food preparation research, Primary Care Trusts and television, radio and film production facilities.

Key clients include Elstree Studios, Stevenage Football Academy, Dudley College and the London boroughs of Barnet, Lambeth and Hackney.

Services include daily cleaning, window cleaning, washroom and feminine hygiene, internal landscaping, pest control, janitorial and housekeeping services and other others.

Based in Stevenage, with offices in London and the West Midlands, it has a £17 million turnover.
