Bury Free Press writer and sub-editor Cath Le Maire died on Monday after a short battle with cancer.

Cath, who had been with the company for 44 years, joined Anglia Newspapers in 1967, having started her career in London, working on women’s magazines including Woman’s Weekly. Her most recent role was producing commercial features across all Anglia’s titles.

She was a keen horsewoman and extremely proud of her two sons, Richard and Andrew, and her four grandchildren.

Group editor Barry Peters said: “Cath was the consummate professional and a great character who thrived in the newsroom and whose dedicated work produced excellent pages. She will be greatly missed by everyone here for her humour and friendliness.”

Cath’s funeral is at West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, at noon on January 26. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Cancer Research UK and St Nicholas Hospice Care via L Fulcher Funeral Services.
