THE Stowmarket malting company Muntons has been crowned Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year by The Manufacturer magazine.

It was also voted runner up in the overall Manufacturer of the Year competition vying with Rolls Royce, Premier Foods, Coca Cola and Thorntons.

The company, which employs 275 people, had to show proof of its sustainable behaviour right across its supply chain and representatives were questioned by a panel of experts on their green management.

The company has already been named among the Sunday Times Best Green Companies.

Dr Nigel Davies, manufacturing and technical director, said: “This will spur us on to continue our drive to environmental protection and business success.”
