SHOPPERS in Waitrose Bury St Edmunds have helped to select East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (Each) for a donation from the store’s Charity Matters scheme.

Every month, Waitrose donates £1,000 which is shared between three good causes and this week £654 was presented to Each.

Shoppers receive a green token each time they go through the checkout and select one of the three charity boxes they would like to place their token into.

Each trustee Bob Jones nominated the charity to benefit from the scheme, which has been running in the store for some time.

Jane Gunsman, Waitrose Community Matters co-ordinator, said: “The wonderful thing about the scheme is that the choice is down to the public. We value what our customers want and allowing a vote on how we distribute our monthly donation gives the power to them.”

Nikki Brown, Each Suffolk fund-raiser, said: “Support such as this will help us contonue to give vital support for families in the local community.”
