An interior design business has expanded after opening a new home accessories and giftware shop in Bury St Edmunds.

Blackthorpe House and Design is an extension of the interior design partnership and B&B business of the same name, which has operated on the Rougham estate for the last four years.

Business partners Susie Carrington and Tony Cooper, who are behind the new venture, say the new shop, in Churchgate Street, will showcase ‘stylish, unusual and carefully sourced home accessories and gifts to suit both contemporary and traditional tastes’.

Mr Cooper said: “I’ve always been passionate about interior design and enjoy travelling to Scandanavia, France and Italy to find beautiful and unusual home accessories.

“My heart lies in retail and buying, so opening a small shop seems a natural step for us to complement our existing services.”

With more than 40 years’ experience, he started his working life as a textile designer producing fabrics for companies such as Liberty and John Lewis. He later helped establish the Leaping Hare country store at Wyken vineyards. Mr Cooper said the Bury store, positioned between Gavin Ashley and Maison Bleue, would provide a ‘more central location to showcase what we can do’.
