The arc shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds is set to fill its only vacant unit, with a restaurant lined up to take over the empty shop.

Centre manager Colin Roberts said the arc was in advanced negotations with a major restaurant chain.

He said the prospective tenant had businesses throughout the country, particularly in London.

He said he expected the restaurant would attract more people to the town.

“It will be very classy. It will be very different,” said Mr Roberts, who hopes it will be in business at the start of the year.

A planning application has been submitted to convert Unit 19A Auction Street from shops to a restaurant.

Some alterations to the premises will be needed.

It is a corner unit opposite two other restaurant establisments and next to clothes retailer Wallis.

“It will be very exclusive,” said Mr Roberts, who added that it was too early to give more details but that it would attract people in the evernings, after most town centre shops and services have closed.
