Bury St Edmunds Chamber of Commerce will debate merging with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce at its AGM on May 15.
The merger has been suggested to grant the smaller Bury chamber greater financial security, and access to the benefits of the larger group.
The Bury chamber committee has said benefits would include a stronger voice on local and national issues as the Suffolk chamber is affiliated to the larger chambers of commerce.
Within their reasoning for the collaboration the Bury committee said it was becoming increasingly difficult to run a successful and influential chamber with volunteer committee members.
However they do offer assurances that the Bury chamber will be able to provide all the local services it has in the past and continue to have a voice in local affairs.
