Base told to boil water

USAF personnel at RAF Feltwell were told to boil their water for three days last week because of the risk that a drop in water pressure during repairs might have led to contamination.

Repairs were carried out by MoD contractors on April 10 and a notice issued on the base on Saturday said: “Testing on April 11 and 12 shows that the water in the distribution system is free of contamination and safe for drinking.”

Anglia Water supplies water to the base boundary, after which the supply is looked after by contractors.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “The ‘boil notice’ would not have applied to people outside the base otherwise we would have known about it.”
