Scott Bilham, 21, from Bury St Edmunds, who works for heating, mechanical engineering and renewable energy firm Blueflame in Colchester, has won apprentice of the year in the Essex Countywide Business Awards.
Lisa MacCormac, director of The Nova Partnership, and the sponsor of this award, said: “Scott is an excellent ambassador for apprenticeships by positively projecting the image of work-based learning as a viable route for continuing education and learning.
“He is a first class role model for young people and an example to other employers who might be considering taking an apprentice in the future.”
Scott said: “At Blueflame I have the opportunity to become proficient in a number of areas.
“If I don’t understand anything, there’s always someone to help and advise me.
“I always put the customer and the Blueflame first, and I understand that I must always do my very best as the company will only be as strong as its weakest link.”
Blueflame director, John Richards said: “He’s everything you’d want in an engineer, let alone an apprentice.”
