TESCO, Marks and Spencer, Matalan and Morrisons – they all started out from a market stall.
Now entrepreneurs are being offered the chance to make their ‘first pitch’ to become a market trader, in a competition being run by The National Market Trader’s Federation.
Business minister Mark Prisk said: “Market traders are a great example of people striking out on their own and the First Pitch competition will encourage more aspiring entrepreneurs to set up in business.”
Accepted applicants will be offered up to five free days of local market trading, during which they will be assessed. They will than be whittled down to a shortlist of 50 who will get a year on the market starting out on half rent. The overall winner will collect £2,000 to further develop their business.
