THE latest occupant of the Thetford Town Council hotseat has promised he will be a ‘working mayor’.
Cllr Derek Mortimer will be the town’s mayor for the second time after the mayor-making ceremony on Wednesday.
He promised to be a ‘hands-on’ mayor and attend to a promising year ahead for Thetford.
He also had kind words for previous incumbent, Cllr Pauline Quadling.
He said: “I thought Pauline was a fine ambassador for the town.
“I accompanied her on many occasions and she was always the most popular person in the room.”
Cllr Mortimer previously served as mayor in 2003-2004 and has served 14 years on the town council. He represents the Guildhall ward.
