Welcome on board new airport link

A NEW airport coach link has been launched by a Mendlesham-based company, creating 18 new jobs.

The route, linking Ipswich, Colchester and Braintree to Stansted and Heathrow airports started this week – running 10 times a day.

The new 24-hour service was launched by National Express in partnership with the Mendlesham operator Galloway European Coachlines.

The coach link has been developed to improve public transport links for holiday makers, business people and airport workers.

The new service also hopes to encourage more people to use coaches, reducing their carbon emissions.

Eighteen new jobs have been created to run the new service and Galloway has bought six new coaches.

David Cattermole, managing director of Galloway European Coachlines, said: “This good news comes at a time when there are regular reports of rising unemployment and lack of investment in new services.

“We’re delighted to partner with National Express to run this service and we hope people use it to make it a success.

“Specialist training has been given to the new drivers to bring them up to the unequalled Galloway and National Express standards.”

The new luxurious coaches allow passengers to carry up to two pieces of luggage in the hold and one piece of hand luggage on board for free.

Andrew Cleaves, National Express managing director, said the new service would ‘improve transport links from East Anglia to the country’s biggest airports helping to boost inward and outward investment in the region’.

“Taking the coach to the airport makes so much sense as it avoids steep car parking costs and the hassle of driving,” he said.
