Suffolk aims to continue to buck trend during National Apprenticeship week
Suffolk County Council is visiting schools this week as part of National Apprenticeship week.
It aims to encourage more people to consider apprenticeships by showcasing what is available.
National figures show a 1.5 per cent decrease in 16-18-year-olds starting apprenticeships, while in Suffolk it has increased by 12 per cent, the council said.
Councillor Judy Terry, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for skills and economic development said: “Apprenticeships are going from strength to strength in Suffolk.
“There are a huge range of opportunities for young people looking into apprenticeships, and our schools and colleges are providing employers with the potential talent pools to grow their business.
“Increasingly, young people are recognising that an apprenticeship is an alternative to university, providing high quality training, which can also lead to a degree in some cases, but without the significant personal financial cost.
“During National Apprenticeship week our teams will be going out to meet with young people who are considering an apprenticeship, providing more information and help in preparing for the recruitment process.
“I would encourage any young person or business interested in apprenticeships to get in touch with our dedicated Apprenticeships in Suffolk team to find out more.”
