Software development firm in Bury St Edmunds give away free app to hairdressers after twitter competition

An app development firm in Bury St Edmunds is aiming to help more independent traders after running a competition to win a free app.
Jabu Designs, in Abbeygate Street, was founded by Kelly Pepper six years ago.
Since then, it has gone on to develop apps for companies and organisations all around the world – it is currently working on an app to promote Kenya.
Closer to home, it has developed the Our Bury app which it launched in November 2011.
“We have had more than 8,000 downloads, which is great,” Kelly said.
The app promotes the work of the 360 plus businesses that form the Bid4Bury group.
It is updated weekly while features include a fan wall, and users can also confirm attendance at an event and get discount vouchers to spend in shops, cafes and restaurants.
Jabu is also behind the LP app which features an updated guest list and GPS triggered loyalty vouchers after five visits.
“On a local level we think it is really important that even small businesses have a mobile presence,” said Kelly.
“This competition gives us the opportunity to show people what we can offer them but at an affordable level.
“It is things like having push notification to let customers know your latest news, offers and events. Apps are more mobile friendly than websites and more fun and interactive.
“It is about being able to compete on a level playing field with the big guns of the high street.”
Hair won the free Android app competition run by Jabu Designs on Twitter.
The salon was founded in 1974 by Jenny Parkington and moved from Garland Street to Brentgovel Street, Bury, in 1988.
“We are surprised, excited and are looking forward to working with Jabu Designs to develop the salon app to promote the new services and treatments that Hair has to offer,” said John Parkington, from the salon.
