Readers questions - Finding an old investment
Sandra from Eye asks: My father recently died and among his papers we found reference to a holding in the Unicorn General Trust savings scheme from 1972. We have no other details and we have been unable to find out who manages this investment now. Can you help?
To find your old unit trust fund, I called the Investment Management Association on 0207 831 0898. They tell me that some old funds can be very difficult to track down, but the trail for this one was easy to follow.
Apparently, Unicorn General was taken over by Barclays and was re-branded as Barclays General in 1997. The Unicorn General Trust was then managed by Barclays Unicorn Trustees. The fund was later acquired by Legal and General Investment Managers, where it eventually became part of the Legal & General Multi-Manager UK fund in 2005.
You should write to Legal and General Investment Managers at PO Box 1004, Cardiff, CF24 0YS, or e-mail them at investments@landg.com quoting the reference number from the document you found.
