Our Local Business Accelerator winners
Dragons' Den judge Deborah Meaden is championing the Local Business Accelerators initiative
Two innovative small businesses have won this year’s South Anglia Local Business Accelerator campaign.
Nuts About Sweets based in Red Lodge, which hires out sweet carts to a range of clients, and Zebra Science in Bury St Edmunds, which provides authentic science experience for children, impressed judges with their energy and drive.
The competition is part of the Newspaper Society’s competition which offers successful young companies the chance to broaden their profile through advertising in local and regional newspapers.
Each winner receives £3,000 worth of advertising and free mentoring from the South Anglia panel of judges.
These were Jane Vincent, chairman of Menta, the Suffolk development agency, Andrew Denny from Denny Bros in Bury and Peter Hoxley, former advertisement director for Anglia Newspapers.

The judges commented on the very high quality of the entrants this year. They said it was difficult to choose winners as they were all great businesses in their own right.
However two stood out as having excellent opportunities for future growth and development with really energetic and dedicated people driving them forward.
Deborah Meaden, LBA National Ambassador, said: “I’d like to congratulate the winners of this year’s Local Business Accelerators who should all feel extremely proud to have got this far in the competition.
“The first LBA created hundreds of business success stories across the UK and I am confident that we will see hundreds more again this year.”
One of the South Anglia winners will go through to the regional heats before competing at national level.
