The Old Sweetshop in Mildenhall has been revamped

A SWEET shop has thrown out the ‘Old’ and brought in the new after a makeover.

The Old Sweet Shop, in Market Place, Mildenhall, has rolled back the years after a name change and lick of paint.

Now just The Sweet Shop, the 300-year-old store has had a revamp with new shelving, a redesigned colour scheme and altered layout.

Emma Alecock, shop manager, said customers were pleased with the refurbishment.

“It’s gone down really well. People seem to really like the change.

“We ripped out the counter so pushchairs and mobility scooters could move around more easily and a lot of people, especially the mums, have been really happy with it” she said.

Ms Alecock, who has been managing the shop since November when it was put under new ownership, said the shop is trying to provide a larger range of sweets.

A corner of American candy will please visitors from the nearby bases and crisps and soft drinks have recently been introduced.
