Proposals for a new care home at Cedars Park in Stowmarket

Plans for a 70-bedroom, three-storey care home at Cedars Park in Stowmarket have been unveiled

The residential care home, which will be built by care home specialist Castleoak and run by Care UK, would be built next to Cedars Park Primary School and could provide up to 90 jobs in the area.

The project, estimated to cost around £4.5 million, will include living rooms, a GP room, a cafe, a cinema room and will provide 12 drop-off spaces for the neighbouring primary school.

Plans for the site, which is part of Care UK’s £60 million investment in 10 new care homes in Suffolk, were on display at Cedars Park Primary School on Wednesday evening.

Steve Rickard, head of planning for Castleoak, said: “The home will be divided up into six communities – this is important with people with dementia or high levels of nursing care. It is a site that lends itself to redevelopment.

“We have designed the home to reflect the curve of the existing pond. It will create a range of jobs split between three shifts. It seems to have been well received.”

The care home will include a wellbeing centre to be open for use by the wider community.

Gary Green, county councillor for Stowmarket North and Stowupland, said: “I am glad Stowmarket is getting something like this – I think it is in keeping with what has already been planned.”

However, Cllr Green said he doubted the pond would look like the image presented by Castleoak.

Phillip Steyn, Care UK’s regional director of West Suffolk residential services, said residents at Wade House care home in Stowmarket would have the choice to move to the new care home if they wished.
