Generous Bury St Edmunds shoppers have rallied round the town’s Food Bank by donating 20 trolley loads in two days last week.

The Gatehouse charity, which runs the Bury Food Bank hopes shoppers will be as generous again this Thursday and Friday in Waitrose.

Its chief executive Amanda Bloomfield said: “Last year in four days over the Christmas period we took 30 trolleys in Waitrose, so we’re ahead of that.

“There are certain types of food we’re particularly running out of and the customers of Waitrose listened to us and delivered what we asked for.”

Children from Horringer Court Middle School went to the Gatehouse warehouse to help sort the goods.

Having given out 172 food boxes since January, they are short of tinned meat and fish, though is donors cannot afford that, tins of fruit, vegetables and baked beans are still welcome. You can also donate at Gatehouse in Dettingen Way, Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm.
