Bury St Edmunds Festival: Dixie Ticklers

The Apex, May 25.

The Dixie Ticklers are a young band of highly accomplished musicians with a love of folk and jazz that is highly contagious.

The five members put on a great show for the audience, opening the act with a loud trumpet solo from the back of the venue.

As they stalked through the audience to the stage each musician joined in building up a great rhythm that left every member of the audience tapping their feet.

The sound early twentieth century New Orleans jazz was brought back to life with the bands quirky style that extended to the use of a washboard by drummer Daoud Merchant.

The highlight of the gig was a rendition of ‘The Dark Town Strutters Ball’ that show-cased the individual brilliance of each member and their confidence to break out of tradition. EL
