Bury St Edmunds Festival: Andi Hopgood at The Hunter Club

Andi Hopgood, The Hunter Club, Monday

THERE was a delayed start as more people than anticipated turned up for this packed lunchtime jazz performance leaving organisers having to go off to fetch more chairs.

Often slow, light and relaxed, Andi’s velvet voice, accompanied by Chris Ingham on the keyboard, rolled through a number of tunes.

Among them was Andi’s own take on Carole King’s classic Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.

However, Andi’s slower paced, version was barely recognisable as a cover, the tune sounded completely different, only the words held faithful to the original.

There was also a performance of Stevie Wonder’s Knocks Me Off My Feet, while Andi’s scat performances brought whoops of delight and thunderous applause from the audience.

The informal performance came to a brilliant end as Andi launched into a faster tune which saw the audience joining in with the song.
