Planning permission has been granted for a Co-op store in Bury St Edmunds.

The East of England Co-operative Society is to open a 3,000 sqft food store in the former Sui Generis car showroom in Out Risbygate ‘at the earliest opportunity’.

The planning application, which was submitted in July last year and experienced some delays because of ‘incomplete’ information, was approved by St Edmundsbury Borough Council on Friday.

Nick Denny, executive officer - property, for the Co-op said: “We’re delighted that another milestone in the process is behind us and we’re looking forward to opening at the earlier opportunity.

“We will inform people as soon as we can and look forward to joining the vibrant Bury community.”
