Focus12 is urging more people to sign up for its new RecoverRace event this summer.

The Bury St Edmunds-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity has partnered with athletics events management organisation HaverSports to host the fund-raiser in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

The event – at The Highwaymans in Risby on July 30 – has something to suit all abilities and ages with 12km and half marathon routes (21km) as well as a 1.2km family route for younger participants.

Tony Kimber, Focus12’s new CEO who is himself a keen runner, said: “It’s a fact that regular cardio-vascular exercise has beneficial effects on body and mind, we all understand that keeping our bodies fit helps us function better, but exercise also works to improve mental health and depression.

“This is a great fit with addiction as so many people make poor decisions about drugs and alcohol because of deep rooted trauma and abuse earlier in their life and exercise can focus them away from those choices.”
