Bury St Edmunds’ Valley Connection’s customers have voted it best Indian restaurant in the east of England.

On Sunday the restaurant took Best South Asian restaurant in the East of England in the Asian Curry Awards 2015 held at Park Lane Hilton and hosted by ITN newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

The Churchgate Street restaurant will probably have to get a bigger display cabinet.

Earlier this year owner Mohammed Shahid received Curry Life’s Business Achievement Award, having been their Chef of the Year in the past, and the restaurant recently received a ‘highly recommended’ in the Houses of Parliament’s Tiffin Cup award for restaurants nominated by their MPs.

In 2013 Mohammed was one of seven curry chefs to showcase their abilities at a 10 day residency in Hyderabad.

After receiving the latest award he said: “Winning this award was an absolute honour. It reflects the dedication and hard work that me and the team have put into making our restaurant a cut above the rest.

“This does not mean that we will now sit back, this motivates us to work even harder to improve our customer experience. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers who voted for us.”

As well as customer voting, judges visited the nominated restaurants, which also included the Spice Lounge in Mildenhall, and dined unannounced.

They marked premises on their food, service and interior design.
