A Bury St Edmunds performing arts student is dancing on air after beating hundreds of hopefuls for a role in a national production.

Ed Mitchell, who studies dance and drama at King Edward VI School, has landed a part in a tour of Lord of the Flies and is rehearsing in Norwich, where it will run from November 19-22.

It is being produced by renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne’s professional dance company, New Adventures.

Ed was among 750 boys from East Anglia who were auditioned to find 20 to perform alongside the professional cast.

Head Geoff Barton said: “Ed chose to come to our school specifically because of our work in dance and drama.” Staff and students will see the show next month.
