An actress from Bury St Edmunds who ‘grew up’ in the town’s Theatre Royal will return to its stage next month.

Abi Hood, a former Thurston Upper School pupil who has been in seven of the Westgate Street theatre’s professional pantomimes, will be starring in improvised comedy Seven Ages with her husband Kevin Tomlinson on November 12.

“It is really exciting to be coming back,” said Abi. “The Theatre Royal is my favourite theatre because I grew up there as an actress.

“I always wanted to come back as a professional to perform, so it is excellent to have made that happen.”

After doing work experience at the Theatre Royal, Abi went on to study acting at the Oxford School of Drama.

She was a member of the Irving Stage Company as a teenager and performed with Bury’s Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society for three years, with whom some of her friends still perform.

As well as touring Seven Ages around the country, Abi recently played the lead in the Snow Queen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough and is rehearsing for another play in Oxford.
