Broken glass spurs clean-up

CONCERNS over increasing litter being left around the Hardwick Shopping Precinct have led to a third community litter pick being organsied.

Residents are worried about broken glass, tin cans and litter left lying near to the school and on October 2 a clean up brigade will swing into action.

Borough councillors Sarah Stamp and Patrick Chung are organising the clean-up along with children from the local schools, the police, Southgate Community Partnership and Southgate Church.

Cllr Stamp said: “There’s a bit of a problem with young people moving around the estates and leaving broken glass and cans.

“Since the community took ownership of the community centre there’s a real sense of ownership her and, as well as raising awareness, we want to involve younger children and to educate them.”
