A benefits claiment who failed to declare £64,000 from his last employer has received a suspended jail sentence.

Michael Jordon, 50, of Heath Road, Brandon, pleaded guilty at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court last Thursday to dishonestly making false statements in January 2007 and March 2008 under the Social Security Administration Act 1992.

Forest Heath District Council said he was paid £9,367.21 in Housing Benefit and £2,165.27 in Council Tax Benefit after failing to declare the payment from his ex-employer then failing to declare the capital or bank accounts in which it was held.

Jordon was sentenced to six weeks jail suspended for 12 months on each charge, to run concurrently. He was ordered to pay £575 costs.
