Mid Suffolk District Council is setting up a working group to look at the possibility of redrawing parish boundaries around Stowmarket.
The full council voted at its meeting before Christmas too go ahead with the ‘community governance review’ requested made in October by Stowmarket Town Council to take account of new housing developments on the edge of town.
The council will give the task to a politically balanced working group of five councillors, who are expected to consult with all the parish councils involved.
If the review goes the town council’s way housing developments on the edge of Stowmarket, currently included in the Onehouse, Combs and Haughley parish areas, would become part of the town.
The parishes argue that a boundary changes could mean they miss out on community money raised from the development to pay for local facilities and continuing Council Tax funds.
