RUNNING a mile for charity is nothing for a sportsman of Russell Claydon’s calibre, so his ‘friends’ on our sports desk decided to make it more of a challenge.

It is a tough one for a blue to the core Ipswich fan like Russell – he has to wear a Norwich City kit while he runs for Sport Relief.

And to make it worse he has to appear in front of the expected 17,000 crowd at Ipswich’s home match against Burnley on Wednesday to explain why and drum up more sponsorship.

He will make the run the following Sunday at 11am on the West Suffolk Athletics Track at Bury Leisure Centre.

Then, much as Russell would like to use the yellow and green kit as dusters, it will be auctioned to raise yet more money. To add to its attraction, the City team has sportingly signed it.

Russell said: “Being blue through and through, it’s obviously quite humiliating to appear at Portman Road in a Norwich City shirt, but with the generosity of readers I hope I’ll be able to look back with pride at raising a good amount for a worthy cause.”

He will also be on Radio Suffolk at noon on Saturday to publicise it.
